The Path of Individual Liberation course now being offered at the New Haven Shambhala Center is based on the teachings of Venerable Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. These teachings were presented in a series of three-month meditation and study retreats called Vajradhatu Seminaries from 1973 to 1986.  The Path of Individual Liberation course draws on an expertly edited compendium of Chögyam Trungpa’s teachings on the nature of mind, the practice of meditation, the reality of suffering, and the possibility of liberation.

The three volumes of these teachings, entitled The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma,  were compiled and edited by Judith L. Lief, and were finally published and made available to the public in 2013.  The Path of Individual Liberation course, based on the first volume of the series, is open to all who have made a relationship with meditation practice, and will be presented by three personal students of the Ven. Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche---Michael Kern, Susan Ryan, and Frank Ryan.

Over 8 weeks, we will explore selected topics from the Hinayana path in a format of facilitated discussion, closely tied to passages in the readings from the Profound Treasury text. Topics will include the four noble truths, karma, the five skandhas, meditation practice, relating with a teacher, and more. The expectation is that students will actively engage in the topics and complete each reading assignment prior to the class discussion.

Participants should purchase The Path of Individual Liberation text before the first class. The book, as well as the entire 3-volume set, may be obtained from Amazon, through Shambhala Publications or local bookstores.
